A concert in Hartford, Connecticut on Tuesday night was temporarily halted after two fans collapsed near the stage.
“Some people need medical attention. It’s not looking good right now, so we’re going to have to stop. We’re going to switch over to another band,” the third dancer in the performance announced over the loud speaker before two fans fell to the ground to receive medical attention.
The concert and a concert in Boston the same night were canceled after multiple deaths due to dehydration from drugs and alcohol while fans were sleeping on the roof of a concert in Florida last week.
The Hartford Times reported that SZA was present during the incident and was trying to go through with the show as she remembered Orlando, Florida fan Elias Santiago, 22, before he died in his sleep after attending rapper Travis Scott’s Astroworld concert on Thursday night.
“I’m just thinking about Elias Santiago, who passed away last night in an accident we were trying to go through with,” SZA said from the stage, which paused the entire show for just four minutes before the show resumed.
In addition to the event in Hartford, where fans were initially shocked to learn of Santiago’s death, Scott’s Astroworld had been a double tragedy for SZA.
Earlier on Tuesday, one of the 25-year-old’s friends passed away of an overdose shortly after arriving to the Astroworld concert in Florida, further stating SZA couldn’t stop thinking about Santiago on stage, calling Santiago’s death in her mind while performing on Tuesday night.
“I love you so much. If you can listen to this song, please focus on him, it’s his name,” SZA said to the crowd at the beginning of one of her songs at the concert in Hartford.
SZA went on to offer the audience a special message for her fans.
“I know what you guys’s [sic] feelings were. Just know that my heart went out to you guys too. You have my love and my support,” she said.
