John Lennon’s Death Anniversary Coming Up Thursday

On Nov. 8, 1980, John Lennon was fatally shot in New York City by Mark David Chapman.

The day marked the 41st anniversary of his death.

Lennon was shot and killed on his way home from a performance at a record store where he was promoting his then-upcoming album, “Double Fantasy.”

Now, a projected has been scheduled for Lennon to appear on the Empire State Building at 5:24 p.m. EST.

Meanwhile, a memorial service for Lennon is scheduled for later on Wednesday.

Kailas Basnyat, a musician and a friend of Lennon’s, is organizing the memorial service. It will take place at 9 a.m. at the Artists Hall of Fame in Soho, according to the Today Show.

The event will be streamed online, according to the Today Show.

About 50,000 fans attended the public memorial in New York City in 1980, where there was a tribute of songs and photos of Lennon and in memory of Lennon, the Daily Mail reported.

The Islamic State militant group is believed to be behind the assassination.

Chapman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.
